The Quality Management and Enhancement Centre (QMEC), Universiti Malaya, is entrusted with the task of managing quality assurance and enhancement activities relating to the University’s core processes. QMEC coordinates and monitors the implementation of the Quality Management System (QMS) instituted since 2002. The QMS of UM covers all its core processes. Universiti Malaya has adopted Quality Management System based on ISO 9001 certification by SIRIM QAS Sdn. Bhd. for a period of 21 years. Since then, UM has been committed to implement QMS with active involvement of management as well as UM community. UM has also constantly practiced and embraced QMS in their work culture where work instructions are followed and continuous improvement is practiced.

Universiti Malaya Quality Excellence Index (UMQEI) has been agreed as the new branding of the existing Quality Management System (QMS) which has been improvised. The implementation of UMQEI aims to enhance the effectiveness of management, to be more competitive and to achieve continuous excellence by focusing on a number of core areas in 'Enabler' and 'Results'. The UMQEI Assessment Report will form the basis of RCs continuous improvement. In addition, this report can be published to be referred by the stakeholders and interested parties to provide confidence in terms of the quality and excellence of PTj.
